The Long Wait is Over…Idol is Back

Season 6 kicked tonight in Minneapolis, but is there really a lot to say about the auditions: some awful, most just ok, and a few great. This is my least favorite part of season, but I did happen to fall in love with both Carrie Underwood and Kellie Pickler during their auditions. However, one awful audition does stand out in my mind, and that’s the cowardly lion. As for the ones who made it through to the next round, a few stand out for different reasons.

1. Jarrod Fowler, the navy guy and Rachel Jenkins, the army girl – The military must really be in bad shape if they’re looking to American Idol to improve their ratings.
2. Denise Jackson – As a self-proclaimed crack baby, she couldn’t have a better back story. If she makes it into the top 24, her story alone should propel her through to the finals.
3. Sarah Kruger – Singing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” she did spectacular, almost as good as Katharine McPhee.

But forget about Season 6, Season 3 stole the show this week after Jennifer Hudson’s Gloden Globe win for her spectacular and tear jerking performance of And I am Telling I am Not Going in Dreamgirls. However, the win was anything but surprising. She was a shoe in the moment she stepped on stage. I pity Beyonce, who was dwarfed by Jennifer’s shadow throughout the show. The producers must have known this because a song was written just for Beyonce, but unfortunately her big solo came after Jennifer’s performance, and so not only was it disappointing, it was anticlimactic.
